Lightning Final Fantasy XIIILightning is one of Final Fantasy XIII’s more mysterious characters, as nothing is really known about her or her past – in fact her name, Lightning is merely a codename. It’s been rumoured that Lightning has actually forgotten her name and will go by the codename “The Lightning” throughout the game; however it’s more likely that this is just a name that Square Enix came up with to hide her true identity until a later date when they released the first Final Fantasy XIII trailer back at 2006’s E3 event.

Mr. 33cm Final Fantasy XIIILike I said, not much is known about Lightning’s past although it’s highly likely that she was a soldier at some point in time due to the fact that the two yellow strips on her shoulder pads are an indication of her rank and social status – along with this Lightning has also revealed herself to be a skilled fighter, with both powerful psychical and magical skills at her disposal. One of Lightning’s more predominant magical abilities is that that allows her to control gravity; Lightning’s control over gravity is widely used in her combat sequences as she is seen soaring through the air whilst attacking her enemies.

It’s unknown who Lightning’s enemies actually are, as she is seen fighting soldier’s in Cocoon – however it’s unknown as to whether or not Lightning is defending Cocoon and fighting against Pulse invaders, or if she is in fact invading Cocoon and fighting off Cocoon’s defences.

Lightning has been seen fighting alongside a man dubbed as “Mr. 33cm”, a man named after his shoe size. Nothing is really known about this man, we don’t even know whether or not he’s one of Lightning’s friends or a foe – however we do know that during the CLOUD DVD trailer he is seen saving Lightning from the group of soldiers that were mentioned earlier.
